Publisher's Synopsis
This drama, set in the 16th century is about a learned God-seeking man, William
Tyndale, who became one of the
most-wanted men in England. Pursued
by King Henry VIII, Lord Chancellor Sir Thomas More, and the
pope's
personal legate Cardinal Wolsey, he
fled across Europe to avoid capture. His "crime" was the fact that he made available in English a translation of the New Testament for his fellow countrymen. In the 16th century the English people were denied translations of the
Bible into English by a
corrupt religious establishment. Today he is known as "the
Father of the
English Bible," and is recognized as
one of the major leaders of the English Reformation.
His brilliant translation work influenced the the King James Version (1611) and all subsequent English translations. Our Comment
