What shall I say in this great day of the Lord, wherein in the midst of a cloud, I have found a fair [rare] sunshine. I can wish no more for you, but that the Lord may comfort you, and shine upon you as He does upon me, and give you that same sense of His love in staying in the world, as I have in going out of it.² Letter of Archibald Campbell, written on the day of his execution in Edinburgh.
In Scotland, during the 17th century, countless men and women gave their lives for the free proclamation of the gospel in their land. They became known as the Covenanters; men and women who sought to defend the right to preach Christ freely. They were committed to the centrality of Christ in their personal lives and in the life of their church. They were committed to the faith that had been taught in the early church and reclaimed during the turbulent years of the Protestant Reformation. They were committed to a faith which centers on Godıs glory, that is a glory which manifests itself in Godıs plan for redeeming a people for Himself through the finished work of Christ.
Much of the Lordıs ³sunshine² has been ³caught² throughout the history of the church in her songs and hymns. The connection between what we believe and what we sing has always been central to Christianity. Our music either keeps us rooted in orthodoxy or leads us astray. God has made us that way, and to that end he has given us the Psalms, the song book of the Old Testament. The deceitfulness of manıs heart has also tried to make use of this fact as well. It was, after all, through songs that Gnosticism gained popularity in the early church. It is for these reasons we have made this CD. We want to sing songs that remind us of Godıs glory and His grace that He might shine more brightly in our lives and in the world around us. We thought it appropriate, living in Seattle, to use this title, for though we live in a city of rare sunshine, the mercies of God are abundant for those who are in Christ. They shine brightly upon us. May this CD serve to deepen your faith, embolden your hope, strengthen your fellowship with all the brethren² and make you long for Christ and His righteousness more in this life and the life to come. Rating: 5 Review By: Matt Bowers I expected a decent bit from
the crew at RUF:UW, but
nothing like what was
delivered. The musicianship on
every instrument is
incredible, the vocals superb,
and the mastering perfect. My
roommate and I listened to the
CD on repeat for 5 days after
getting it. A great bonus is
the insert, which has all of
the lyrics and contains a
short but brilliant piece of
writing by Ed Dunnington. Buy
it, you won't regret it at all. Rating: 5 Review By: Dan Presley This CD is awesome. It's a
masterpeice, I will play for
years to come.
